The Lord always leads us on mission and often leads us to pursue that which is far beyond our capabilities. When we courageously attempt great things in dependence upon God, He receives the glory, and we catch a fresh glimpse of the greatness of our God. That is precisely what the people of Israel experienced in Nehemiah’s day. Nehemiah sensed God stirring his heart to restore and rebuild Jerusalem following the exile, and he answered that call. My prayer is that in this study we will glean the vision, faith, zeal, determination, self-sacrifice, and integrity that we need to pursue the God-sized task that the Lord has placed in our hearts as a church to make more room in our hearts and in our facilities for those who need Christ. We are inadequate for these things, but we sense that the time to move forward in faith is now. Remember, what seems enormous for us is a small thing in the sight of the Lord (2 Kings 3:18). We trust Him, and as we take these steps in faith and in courage, we rest in the sovereign will of God.
